Rhode Island WHITE?

thats not true. i have a single comb RIW i bought a few years ago as a chick. maybe hes not pure. idk

It may be a case like Wyandottes. They are all supposed to have rose combs, but every now and then a single comb crops up. But RIW are quite rare, I believe. I would go with the White Rock concensus on the bird in the OP.

Real RIWs, like Chris said, only come in rose combs, but as we all know, hatcheries make up their own names and standards for what they sell and they do sell single comed birds as RIWhites. They are basicly a white version of the Production Reds as they match them in every aspect other than plumage color.

For the bird in question, there's not much visual difference in hatchery WRs and RIWs, so its possible it could be either, but WRs are more common so that's the way I would lean.

Here is a pic of the Hatchery "RIWhites" I had if it would help any, they were probably around 5 months in the pic so their combs and bodies hadn't quite filled out yet.

Brown eggs won't tell ya much! both breeds lay down brown eggs. I meant to say, the individual birds lay different shades of brown, I have a SS that lays the lightest tan egg and another that lays a dark brown egg that is about the same color as my Cuckoo Maran.

Some rocks lay darker brown eggs than others. I don't think you could determine breed solely on the colour of the egg between the two breeds.

White rocks are very common, and RIW are not.

Right thats what I was saying just used SS instead of the Rocks, was just pointing out that the egg color doesn't mean much when determining breed.
