Thought I'd start a fresh thread for Rhode Islanders. I'm in Coventry. Have the following:

-2 FIRs (Ruth and Roxy)
-2 Plymouth Barred Rocks (Penelope and Peggy)
-2 Golden Comets (Cinnamon and Candy)
-2 White Leghorns (Lucy and Luna)

Hello all! First time posting, but long time "stalker" and 2 year Chicken owner I received my first chickens from a coworker that went a little overboard for a client she worked for ordering chickens and asked if I wanted some. Ummmmmm, YES!!!!! I started with 4 pullets but saw them grow up on the farm.

Rosita aka: Seahag : RI Red (She somehow caught her comb on something during the summer and ripped it half off her head, she luckily healed fine with no issues but her comb now has a mind of its own, so between that and her not having the greatest personality/attitude we nicknamed her)
We unfortunately no longer have Feather with us as she was a failure to thrive, staying small and when I had her necropsied she had a lack of all her reproductive organs which also explains besides her smallness why she never laid for us. A few months after Feather, Cookie died of a heart attack
Thankfully there have been no other incidences and I have a happy healthy flock with new additions as of last summer, raised by me as chicks.

Oh! And July 2020 we were adopted by a stray Guinea Fowl pair, his mate disappeared, we guessed she was laying on eggs because we saw them "doing the dance" ;P, however we were unable to locate her or her nest.
Long after it was around the time her eggs should've hatched there was still no sign of her, but Joe kept coming around, so we decided to let him stay much to the chagrin of our neighbors
Joe also still has his territory, from my yard to a fellow Joe loving friends yard a street away He's seriously the best!

Hello, I live in Richmond, RI and I have raised chickens for over 60 years, i had as many as 98 but i am now down to 37, Golden comets, Easter eggers and Dixie Rainbows welcome to BYC

Chicks are 4 weeks old today. Moved them out to the coop yesterday (with a heat lamp). They are pretty much fully feathered and some were starting to fly out of the brooder in the house. Plan to keep them confined to the enclosed part of the coop for the next week. Hopefully the weather will continue to warm up around here.

6 weeks old now. All doing well. Beginning to suspect one of my White Leghorns is a cockerel vice pullet. Comb is much more prominent than all the others. Will have to find it another home if this turns out to be true. Only issue is getting them to all go inside the coop at night. Any suggestions? Have an automatic door with photocell.

Any other Rhode Islanders out there? This is starting to feel more like a blog than a chat thread.

Finally dropped off my rooster today. Couldn't wait any longer, he started to crow this weekend at 9 weeks old. Was a chore catching him in the run. Every time I went to grab him, all the ladies would get between him and me. Guess the girls didn't want to lose their "man".

Thanks! I ended up getting them at Cluck which is in Cranston. The owners are really nice and they have everything you could need for chickens there. There are chickens, goats, sheep, alpaca, ducks, and two dogs at the onsite farm! I highly recommend checking it out.

Hi all, I'm in the Southcoast area of MA between Fall River and Providence RI, so I figured I'd chime in here because frankly I'm closer to most of you than I am to most of the rest of MA.
If you know anyone looking for easter egger pullets or some frizzle easter egger cockerels, send them my way--I've got too many! They're from local breeder Open Gate Poultry in Westport, MA.
