Well, it will be Winter in a week or so but Autumn has just decided to arrive,

We had a hard rain with tiny hail stones yesterday which knocked off a few leaves from our maples. I thought it was a nice contrast on the green.
That is a beautiful photo. I love the contrast. Very nice!

There's been quite some discussion here on occasion on how a rooster changes the dynamics of your flock. I have all girls & a close relationship with my flock. A rooster would come between me & his girls. That's his job of course but I'm not breeding & have few predators so have no real need for one. :)
In my experience, the impact a roster has on your relationship with the flock is dramatic. Especially if you add the rooster after you have had the hens for a while. In my case there was definitely confusion on the hens part as the rooster did not like them coming to me for companionship. It did not go well.

I'm sure you're right, Bob. I love how their heads all come up when the wild birds call, checking it out. I'm sure they understand. There is always a period with any new girls where they are super alert until they learn what the normal bird calls are around here ~ & which are alarms. They all respond to alarm calls, though some are more likely to assess the risk before bolting & some just bolt ~ like the Campines.
So you have an bunch of sentries providing early warnings to your flock. Very handy.

AUSSIE PEEPS!
On the off chance anyone sees or hears anything:
A breeder near Stratford [Vic] had 21 Vorwerk hens & 2 roosters stolen last week. That's 2 years work on a breed that's quite rare out here. :(
And they're not laying just now either. 🙄

She's understandably quite upset.
And keep an eye on your girls!
Things like this are quite scary. I may go back to locking the perimeter fence again. Hmmmm.

I've found the reported incidence of male deafness among married men to be concerning.
Being a music lover my hearing is obviously important to me. I often cite the long term hearing disability as a reason for remaining single.
There really should be some health studies carried out on the subject given the prevalence of the problem. I have great difficulty understanding the problem. Being not just a music lover, but also a Hi Fi enthusiast, I found some of my partners forever turning the music down, or telling me to do so. I had, given the above problem, assumed that this was concern over my hearing but experience, albeit somewhat limited, has proven that my partner/s were in fact concerned about not being able to make themselves heard over the music. I didn't fully understand the problem until my sister at a live concert was all for asking the guys at the mixing desk to lower the volume because she couldn't make herself heard above the music.
My Dad always claimed that he did not hear my Mom when she spoke to him but that same man could hear a deer walking in the forest 2 miles away! :gig

I always called it, "selected deafness". :lau
