Ribh's D'Coopage

Well, it seems that the screech owls have become permanent residents... and I am SO happy :ya... they have been here for the last four nights! Guess that means we have an abundance of rats
We were watching them last night flying from tree to tree.. they are SO cool.. and that SOUND! I just love hearing it... I asked hubs if I could put some chicken feed out in the open so when the rats come out to eat then the owls will get to eat

Owls are .

Today's chores: cutting up the last remaining slab; chainsaw on the pile of firewood out the front & starting to move sandstone tiles strategically around the yard so the lad just has to lay them. And the girls paced their pen watching every move we made! lol They will give a running commentary once we start laying. I just know it!:lau

:) I am just so chuffed with myself tonight! I may make a 1/2way decent chicken mama yet! :)

I was sitting on the stoop handfeeding Lottie [as I do till she is ready to go & fight for her rights in the general hub~bub.] It gives me a good idea of the flock dynamics so I know to watch & make sure my Campines & Lavender do actually get something because these 3 are right @ the bottom of the pecking order apart from Lottie & my top order chooks are dominatrix who rush around from food station to food station asserting themselves. When Lottie hopped down I sat with a fistful of food. My BAs, my Rocks & the Favorelles will always approach & take a treat but tonight BOTH Campines scoffed feed from my hand & reassured by their bravado, so did Lavender, who is quite a shy girl. I feel this is a huge step forward to these girls being far easier to handle & feel safe within the flock.

The are so gorgeous! Do they lay blue eggs? Or am I thinking of some other ones... I’ll have to check on that..

Well, come to find out that my screech owls are actually common barn owls.. their size really had me confused.. I remember screech owls being rather small and these were quite large... after some research I found out that the common barn owl screeches.. who knew .... anyway, nonetheless cool!!
