Lids
Songster
Yes, they walk free from 6 or 7 am (depending on the light) till the roo herds them back into the coop at bedtime, which is around 5 pm. (We have genets.) Fortunately he is a lovely soul, very gentle (mostly--he is being a bit of a nuisance these days what with all the girls having to cope with babies and him being impatiently horny...)But didn't you say you free ranged? Technically I don't [escapees excepted] & have a very low predator risk otherwise I would be seriously considering a rooster.
These days it's more a case of they stand there & scream @ me demanding their release.![]()
The mamas are friendlier with me since they've hatched their chicks, because these are absolutely ravenous all the time and now they NEED me to provide food.
But they still do a warning sound when I approach. I also think they worry that I might steal their chicks... which is true... I'd love a tamer chicken.I got the originals from a lady who has stables during the lock down. They just walk entirely free there. Very clued up about predators, they are. Including humans.
[edited for spelling (auto correct
) errors and then added some pics]They like the dogs' area when it's wet outside.
