Well the hen situation continues to amaze me. My prime breakerouter is Suyin,
not one of the Campines. They have got wily. If they hear the car go out for a quick dash to the shops, that's when they make a break for freedom & I inevitably find them prowling the pen perimeter when I get back. Suyin is the braver of the 2 Favorelles. Ha'penny is the braver of the Campines, though both are
soo much better than they were. Catching them is something else, but once I have them they are calm & docile. No more mad panics & freakish screaming.
Ha'penny will squat for me but now I have the treadle feeder back in the coop & no australorps hogging it My biggest girls hog it: Soda [BR], 2 Favorelles] & Lavender [frizzle] there's no room for anyone else. As it holds about 5 kg of feed there is plenty for everybody but Lottie still gets pushed off the feed constantly so I still grab a handful & feed her on her own. She's such a calm little girl! Anyway, I have been constantly fending Suyin off. She is pretty pushy about being my hen & the only chicken to get in my lap of her own free will. I am not deceived. I know she thinks I have hidden treats!

However today I was stunned to find Ha'penny in my lap instead! For sure she was stomping all over Lottie in her efforts to reach the food but that she was there @ all was pretty astounding. As I never wanted lap chickens I have made no special efforts to *tame* my Campines. I treat them the same as all my other chickens. I try to make no sudden movements & speak quietly but I don't single them out.
Later it was Tuppence, who just stood in front of me & *screamed*. Not her full on mad woman
I'm a lunatic scream, just a
I'm here, speak to me, scream. They are so funny!
Lottie hops down when she's done & everyone else lines up. They would all rather eat from my hand than the feeder or bins ~ a quirk I'm not sure I understand. Is it rooster tit~biting? I don't mind sitting for 1/2 an hour or so to do this. Everyone gets some individual attention & I can give everyone a quick once over. Mind you, moving is pretty problematic as I have so many small bodies underfoot!
