I've mentioned that I found that if junior hens tried to sit they got a hard time from the rest of the tribe before. Fat Bird and Donk in particular used to evict pullets they considered unworthy of being mums.As a new layer & a very young hen no~one seems to think Shuri should be sitting.View attachment 2943865
She was given a hard time when she got off the nest to eat & drink. Even Olivia felt obliged to tell her she was out of line.

Even timid little Oshina felt safe challenging her!
Yes. I do remember. Interestingly no~one has objected to any of the banties going broody ~ & they all have to a greater or lesser degree. Perhaps because they all arrived together & are all more or less the same age & a sub group of the larger tribe?I've mentioned that I found that if junior hens tried to sit they got a hard time from the rest of the tribe before. What a great haul. The week's supply of eggs.View attachment 2946299
They'll be heading to church in the morning.
She's a handsome lady.Soda is showing her age.
She is moving slowly & ponderously & barely eating any of the commercial feed.
She is first to roost & roosts early. She is runny @ the back end ~ not unusual for her & her weight still seems to be good.
She's always been a very big girl~ bigger & heavier than I thought was good for her.

She was a pushy youngster but has been a calm & benevolent flock leader.
Luna, Hepzibah & Ha'penny are excellent subordinates under her but are pretty hopeless leaders. Two don't want the position & Ha'penny is erratic. I'm not sure how much longer I will have her. I think she's coming up to 6 but may already be there. Freya is looking to take over but as she's something of a bully I'm not real keen on that idea. I have too many odd birds to have a bully in charge.
