Ribh's D'Coopage

Ok, sooo… having said that,
I went and checked on River, who had got herself into the corner of the run. Her head was completely upside down, so I picked her up and put her on the grass. I lifted her head up so she was the right way up, she gets up, walks off and starts eating! I gave her some pellets and she ate those. I’ll take her to an avian vet this arvo and see what he thinks.
Oh my gosh!!! I'm very interested to know what the vet says.

I'm wondering if perhaps she has an inner ear infection? As @Ribh said; does the chicken want to live? She's not convincing me she's done yet.
I'm no sort of scientist but that was Sif. Her head twisted, her crop ballooned, her toes curled, she lost her balance. The vet offered to put her down but Sif wasn't ready to give up so I took her home. Vitamins, a little extra protein [scrapings from the cat's dinner], & what exercise she can manage & though it's been slow, she's getting there. Stress [as in attacks] do make it worse so I intervene.

She likes the pullet pellets, which are 18% protein, so I've been letting her have those. Tegan likes them too (as does Nyssa) but as Tegan is moulting, it's probably fine for her to be eating it while she grows more feathers. I'll try offering her some cheese and meat, maybe some fish and see how she goes. She's been quite picky lately.

For the snoopers...;)
a close up of the mirror under discussion. The carving is rather lovely & flows beautifully. If I remember correctly it is a soft wood. I keep thinking Beech but I'm sure that must be wrong. The painting reflected in the mirror was done by my aunt when she lived on Tamborine Mt & overlooks the Canungra Valley. She preferred to work with a warm palette so I treasure the 2 paintings she did for me in a cooler palette.

That's a bit special Ribh. Hard to find anything like that.

At the vet’s now. Look at these good sisters!

Vale River

So the vet said the fungal infection may have spread to her inner ear and caused neurological damage, which was affecting her neck and head. He didn’t think it was going to improve so I decided to have her euthanised. I’m sad but she’s been sick for a long time, so I think it was kinder not to prolong her suffering. Here’s some pictures to celebrate her life.
