Haha!! Rich is a very good help with the housework. He is technically retired, but still works part-time, so he is home to clean more then I am.

We've both been working hard to go through the kids stuff. It is a huge undertaking. I like to go through their stuff when they aren't home, it makes it so much easier!

How do you keep grass with chooks?!!! They are gorgeous, BTW.

I have no trouble keeping grass with my 4 hens. In fact I don't need to mow, or do I?

I've found that my chooks will widen any bare patches in the grass
(I don't have "lawn") when they are free ranging, but if the ground coverage is good they don't scratch it up for the half day or so that they are out of the run. They prefer to go into the garden beds and fling mulch everywhere

Thanks, Bob. The man has quite a few but the ones I really like are our natives: they throw long spikes like this one just starting to open now. I'll try & remember to take a pic when it is fully open.

Unsurprisingly, my garden seems to be a few weeks behind yours

I'll post a pic of them when they open ^

Meanwhile some of my bulbs have come up and I've rediscovered what I planted! Jonquils! (I think) . There's Tsuki and Deana modelling for me in the background

No activity from the hive just yet though once it warms up a little there will be lots of activity @ the entrance.​

All that resin is a deterrent & a warning to would be predators. They've been busy since they got here!​

That's so cool. I've put up "bee houses" in my garden but I can't tell if anyone has moved in...

In cheerier terms, I'm a huge fan of train travel. In addition to all the great points already made, it's less cramped and easier to move around, sometimes there's even a cafe car or dining car! When I've got time, I train my way. Plus if there's a mechanical failure, you don't fall out of the sky. Huge bonus.

Ahh yes, but strictly speaking that wasn't mechanical failure. That was derailing and hitting a bridge support.

Yea I hate it when pilots have to walk home. Before Dad Died I made dozens of trips back home by train. I found it really relaxing. you get on, have a nice dinner in a good restaurant setting, have a few drinks, watch a movie and go to sleep in a comfortable bed. That's how travel should be. I remember flying in the 70's when you went to the bar in the upper deck and had a couple drinks or dinner or both and then went back to your seat, which was 10" wider than they are today.

Train travel sounds so elegant and civilized...sigh

You can buy hives. Did you want natives or regular? If you are going with natives you want whatever is the species for your area. We bought a complete caboodle:hive+ skip of what is indigenous to our area.
