Ribh's D'Coopage

I tried the whole 'why dust when it just comes right back' with my man, but he didn't fall for it...
My man is responsible for the dust. If he doesn't like it he knows where the broom is...:lau

In the IT business we have a saying and I imagine it crosses all industries... "If you want it Bad, you get it BAD" and I have a boss who wants it really bad. Just build something anything, who needs a design or plans.

*facepalm*

Rant ahead...

In what fantasy land is that a good idea?

GIGO applies to everything not just data.

People with that kind of "just do it" attitude are an embarrassment to the profession. No, to any profession. Trades are "buyer beware" professions are "buyer can place trust because we have standards of practice and the oversight of the professional association - when things go wrong we are hauled over the coals, publicly" Have you seen the ACM's new code of ethics? It's really strong. The ACS has a good one too.

In cheerier terms, I'm a huge fan of train travel. In addition to all the great points already made, it's less cramped and easier to move around, sometimes there's even a cafe car or dining car! When I've got time, I train my way. Plus if there's a mechanical failure, you don't fall out of the sky. Huge bonus.

Yea I hate it when pilots have to walk home. Before Dad Died I made dozens of trips back home by train. I found it really relaxing. you get on, have a nice dinner in a good restaurant setting, have a few drinks, watch a movie and go to sleep in a comfortable bed. That's how travel should be. I remember flying in the 70's when you went to the bar in the upper deck and had a couple drinks or dinner or both and then went back to your seat, which was 10" wider than they are today.

I'm not a fan of heights but I've done quite a few trips in the jump seat of a 747 ~ & gliding... I've been gliding. Gets the old heart a~pumping!

@MaryJanet : Is your insurance sorted yet? And are you physically well still ~ no late injuries...?

Yes, I received the money a couple of days ago. I was very happy with the outcome and my new car will have the same kind of policy. It's not enough for a replacement car, but that's because I've decided to get a more recent model. My appointment with the tax guy is early September and I'll put some of my tax return towards the new car too. For the time being I'm really enjoying my cousin's car which has heated seats!!! What luxury. I've been known to put the seats all the way up to 5.
