This the fenced off chicken pen with their coops in the background.

You can see some tyres in the third shot which I've planted herbs in and have kept covered until they get established. My girls love picking at the parsley and it needs a rest occasionally.

^ Notice the remains of a grevillea (dead branches) in the background. It took up this whole area before it curled up it's toes, which is why this part of the garden is kinda bare. Now it makes great perching space for the girls and not a bad spot for hanging a waterer.

Once I've planted more around the wire and my annuals come up , I'll post more "after" photos.

@Aussie-Chookmum : I love Banksias. My very favourite native is the brown boronia. It doesn't look like anything special but when it flowers!!!! My. My. My. The perfume is exquisite. I can't grow it up here. I have a pile of Grevillias, Banksias, bottlebrushes to hedgerow out the front when our side walk is finally clear of building materials. Sadly the chooks ate all 3 of my magnolias! They were tubers & not big enough to withstand an Australorp attack.

Thank you so much for sharing. I love looking @ what other people have planted ~ especially those brave enough to mix natives with exotics. I love plants in both categories myself & drive the poor man to distraction. Great run too. You have lucky & beloved girls.

I woke up with a scratchy throat & was crashed on the couch by lunchtime.

Our doors arrived. We are missing one. But our super special order for our bedroom did arrive.​

I'm in a similar predicament, I am currently rather ill with a cold/sinus infection myself right now. Sadly I still have to be at work, no paid time off. Rich bought me some Wild Turkey American Honey and made me a strong hot toddy so that helped me sleep last night.

When it was alive it fell over and grew away from the fence. A Satin bower bird started building a bower under it where it was hard for my dogs to get to . Then, when the chooks were free ranging they loved getting under there and scratched the bower to pieces! The bower birds tried rebuilding a couple of times but gave up when the chooks kept ruining their hard work, poor things .

When it died, I had the tree lopper in and told him I was going to expand the chook run. He immediately started looking to see how he could leave perches for the girls. I think he's one of us!

^ Here is what the grevillea looked like after it died but before it was lopped. It's just to the right of the coop.

We have to treat boronias as annuals here. They just curl up their toes after a year or two. I find it too disheartening. But after a few years I always catch the boronia bug again!
