Ribh's D'Coopage

Cats are very good at finding warmth. Maybe make a toasty warm bed some distance from the chickens' run?

That's a cute puppy! Is it a Lagotto?
🤔I don’t want to attract cats by making it cozy for cats.

The dog (pup) is a labradoodle.
Wiki translated: The labradoodle is a cross-bred product that was initially based on crosses between the labrador retriever and the poodle. The dog is not recognized as a breed by the organization FCI.
They are very popular in the Netherlands, but also very expensive.
pro’s : friendly character, smart, dedicated, doesn’t loose hair but needs shaving like poodles.

I don't recall having ever seen a Labradoodle that beautiful colour. All the ones I know are yellow.

There are some products that repel cats, but I don't know if they're safe for use around chickens so you might want to do a little reading up before using.

Also, I'm amused that all us cat people came up with plans for luring the cat to another, lovelier place! We're not much good at getting rid of cats, very good at making them comfy and happy :gig

Funny! I think all us cat lovers also know that excluding a cat from where they want to go is a fool's errand - the more you try and exclude them the more they will go where you don't want them.
I always say that the best way to get a cat to go somewhere is to close the door to that place so they can't get there. When you open the door you can guarantee they will rush into that place.

Works every time!

Thanks for thinking out loud @MaryJanet and @RoyalChick .
Now my conclusion is I need to plant something in the run with a smell that cats find disgusting 🤢
But the chickens don’t mind and don’t eat.
Cats are often not keen on citrus smells. There are both orange and lemon mints you could grow.
I would test the theory first by hanging up citrus peel around the entrance. Citrus peel is not good for chickens as food and in my experience they will just ignore it.
Handy hint, once it is all dried up it is great as a fire lighter.

Here is a an old picture I came across of a cat who I lost many years ago. He was never intended to be a house cat and got stress issues from being confined. So eventually reluctantly I let him come and go as he chose.
For a couple of years we had a lovely life together, but one day he never returned.
I hired a lady who had scent tracking dogs and she tracked him along a fence line (chasing a bunny probably) and across the road into a lovely clearing in the woods. I placed trail cams but never saw him again.
I take comfort that although he almost certainly got taken by a coyote at least he got to experience such a lovely place.
Rest in peace my lovely, I am sorry I could not protect you better.
