Ribh's D'Coopage

As Aussies know, we have a housing crisis here in OZ, & while prices are coming down in other states, they are still going up in Queensland. Consequently I have been priced out of all the areas I was initially interested in.:(

I spent days googling every house in Queensland in my price range ~ & let me tell you, I looked @ some absolute shockers! It was very depressing. However I did spot this charming little 1930s workers cottage about 9 hours north but initially dismissed it as having land that was too steep for my purposes. I went to look @ another property [which turned out to be a right shocker] so stopped in on the off chance & lo & behold, while it is slopey in places & quite steep in one or two areas, overall it is quite manageable.

Aussies will know these cottages. They are not to everyone's taste having no hallways & having to walk through one room to get to another, For example the kitchen & bathroom have to be accessed from the sleepout via a bedroom.🤣 As it will be just me for the most part, this is not really a problem.

It's quirks are offset by some pretty major pluses. It faces nor, nor'east. It is @ the end of a no through road. It is @ the top of a hill [so views]. It backs onto state forest. It has 1,012 m² of land. It's in, what is considered, one of the better areas of town.

It was also, unfortunately, really, really popular with lots of interest & @ least one buyer made a truly outrageous offer, which in no way could I compete with. However that buyer thought he could bully his way into possession. Unfortunately for him he was dealing with a DV survivor who took offense @ his attitude but liked me, another DV survivor who shared her faith, so she favoured me over the other.

Settlement is still about 3 weeks away & the move will be problematic as the back isn't chicken & dog proof & there is no hen run though to my surprise both back neighbours have chickens, which is nice.

The township is about 35 minutes from Rocky so a completely different climate than what we are used to, though up in the hinterland so shouldn't be too awful in summer. And I was highly amused on the drive up as once past Gympie it is pretty much country highway with no traffic but I was constantly seeing signs saying, LAST FUEL FOR 85K. Not sure too many 1st world countries need to post those sort of warnings!😆

Congratulations!! I love it! I agree, the floorplan is perfectly fine for one person. Hope settlement goes without a hitch :fl

Also I love that the moneyed bully missed out.

lol Everyone was happy about that! The RE agent was subtly rooting for me, as was her partner & boarder. Too funny. Money does not always get you what you want.

Definitely a lovely cottage! And a real nice size garden too. ❤️ Congrats!

Unfortunately for him he was dealing with a DV survivor who took offense @ his attitude but liked me, another DV survivor
DV? I have no clue what this means. Please help me out.

DV=Domestic Violence.

No, I was just explaining how the layout works as there are no hallways. Older Queensland homes often had just the one main bedroom & the children would sleep on the verandahs, as my mother did as a child. Later these verandahs would be enclosed & turned into sunrooms or sleepouts but it means the houses are more than a little quirky when it comes to floor plans.
And a real nice size garden too.
The garden was a huge selling point for me ~ especially as it has a well established Poinciana tree which will be spectacular in another month or so.
