Ribh's D'Coopage

Sorry to hear this, whatever happened. I understand now why the seller has a warm hearth for you! Sometimes (more) money is just not something that makes you happy. :hugs

quirky when it comes to floor plans.
A hallway is not an important room to have. Nevertheless it makes me curious. Does remind me of people I used to know as a child. They lived in a large mobile home with a baby until they found a better place for a family.

No proper acces to to the bathroom made me pee in the bed when I was about 7-8 yo. So embarrassing 🙈. Id wish they gave a potty back then, like you do Manue.

I slept on the balcony
😨 Outside in the winter cold too? And what if it rained or snowed?

It was a hot country so no snow. But there were heavy rains at certain times of year. The trick was to close the shutters and pull the bed away from the edge. The balcony above created a roof of sorts. But I remember getting wet several times.
I also remember that to get any privacy in the bathroom you had to wait until everyone was snoring. Definitely loud snorers which helped.
I had two routes to the bathroom. Both required picking my way past, around, and over the snoring family. As a pre-teen and early teen I was shy. I guess that is common as your body changes. So I would never go to bed and sleep until I identified everyone snoring and then would make my way to the bathroom and back.
I have vivid memories of freezing on the spot when I thought the snoring had been interrupted!

I too remember peeing in my pants one time because I was too embarrassed to ask where to go when I was invited to a kids birthday party. I remember the house was very big and very grand and very dark. And they had servants I think who were very intimidating and I think looked down on me. I was simply too scared to interrupt anyone to ask where to go. I felt very ashamed because my mother had put a lot of work into sewing my clothes for the party.

Funny what you remember from childhood.
Sorry for long post!

Thanks for sharing this. I find it very interesting as I have never seen a home without a hallway.

Thanks for sharing @RoyalChick

I have seen a few without a hallway. One was an option to buy our first family home. The owners took out the wall between the hallway and the living room to make the living room bigger (or reception room as they say in England).
Other than that it was a normal house with bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs around a small corridor.
We didn't buy the house bc it was too expensive. And bought a house on paper instead that hadn’t been build jet. On a plot of 170m2. Very tiny for lots of people, but quite normal in the Netherlands.

We have that kind of layout too in the house where I live (no corridors).
When we have guests... we give them the choice to take a chamber pot at night and some always do, like my mum 🤣.

It looks lovely. And even if it isn't exactly what you were searching for, and it will be a lot of work moving, I think it will be very good for you to finally have your own place, and feel like you can settle down at last. I am very glad for you ! And if the chooks have to come in for a while I am sure they won't mind 🥰!
Thanks, @ManueB. I will be pleased to be somewhere permanent. The chickens don't mind a little hustle & bustle but the cats hate any sort of disruption. This should be our last move & they can settle with more than the 2 rooms we presently occupy.

Ensure you have indoor nesting for the chooks, preferably in the kitchen. I've seen @Shadrach say that having a nesting box inside is just as sensible as running water or something along the lines of that.

Lol That is rather disturbing. My Aunt's house had several bedrooms that could only be accessed via the verandahs, no bathroom & the shower was on a cement slab under the water tank [ for pressure] so all your showers were cold! My paternal GPs had the tiniest house with just one bedroom, no living or dining, just an enclosed verandah @ the front & all 5 kids slept on the back verandah. My maternal GPs had 1 verandah for the boys & another for the girls. The farm I remember was @ Kingaroy which has very nippy winters so the verandahs had bamboo blinds that could be lowered for privacy & to keep the worst of the weather @ bay. It actually boggles my mind what people think they now have to have to live comfortably.
