It was but she's bouncing back well. Not so sure about Suyin. She's still half naked & very thin despite extra care.Gosh that was a cruel moult.
Looking lovely!
I realise now that Mary's moults are not so bad. Of the four chickens, she definitely has the hardest time of it, but what she goes through is nothing like what Lavender and Suyin go through. It was but she's bouncing back well. If I thought It would make the trip I'd send you one.Mmmmm....If I lived closer I'd be over in a flash!![]()

Yep. I don't know why some chickens do it harder than others. My Australorps also molted hard but the BRs shed a feather or 2 & plow on as normal.I realise now that Mary's moults are not so bad. I have a fellow feeling for the timid ones. The chicken world can be very rough & you need to be tough. She's a cutievery low maintenance too. She makes damn sure that she gets her fair share of food and water. Whereas Ivy is very timid.
I put a new feeding station in the henhouse. That makes seven stations for four birds. But it took the seventh for Ivy to consider herself entitled to a standstill meal instead grabbing a bite then running.I have a fellow feeling for the timid ones. I am planning on replacing my treadle feeder & tubs with tubes. No matter how many I put out the Big Girls still manage to hog the food. Ten might just do it...I put a new feeding station in the henhouse. That makes seven stations for four birds. Mind you, I put it in a hidden corner so perhaps it's the privacy that changed her behaviour.
