Yup I lost it. Now I have 100+ acres on the side of a mountain. My favorite book when I was a kid was "my side of the mountain."

I loved that one too! Just made me want to run off into the wilderness with a penknife and escape. I wonder if that “alone” reality TV show is still going? I know I could win it... I can happily go weeks without company, and it’s almost in my backyard... I know I could do way better at building a shelter here than most of those bearded, axe toting idiots they had on it as long as the municipal building office stays out of it!

I have to add here... I “repaired” some of our paigewire fencing this afternoon with sedge grass, because I didn’t want to drive all the way back to my trailer for tools! Silly cow got into the wrong field and couldn’t figure out how to get back out to mama... hoping my knots and lashing will withstand the deer until I can get back out there in a day or two! And how does my mother NOT have any haystrings in her vehicle?

As an old *Queens Guide* I can manage all sorts of things from what is lying around the place. And John is what's known as a *bush carpenter* ~ . The neighbours on one side are stunned @ what we can put together between us without needing an *expert*.. We are stunned. They got a tradie in to build their raised beds because they couldn't figure out how to do it themselves.

On a day like today we always hear a lot of birds. They are all out foraging & enjoying the weather after all the rain. I keep a weather ear out for the chooks, always, but this morning I suddenly realised something was going ballistic on my deck so I stuck my head out. Marlow had been curled up asleep in one of the verandah chairs. On the back of the other chair was a young Butcher Bird telling him off in no uncertain terms!

Of course he flew off as soon as I stuck my head out but they are bold & aggressive birds, killers & not much frightens them, not even humans. On the plus side they have the prettiest song of any of our native birds.

Morning Jeannie Weeds are out and seeds and plants are in. Except Tomatoes, peppers and broccoli. I almost put the broccoli in but it's still smaller than I like. Tomatoes and peppers need to grow more as I like to bury them a foot deep. I've got to get 16 of the tomatoes transferred to bigger containers as they've started to root bind in their starter containers.

My tomatoes are just starting to flower but I seem to have mold or some sort of fungi all through the beans. Never had that happen before. Will replant if there's no improvement shortly. You have to be on the ball with your seedlings somewhere where it snows.

I'm doing a crazy mix this year. Last two years I've had a problem with late blight. Never had it before moving to TN. So this year I did a lot of research and asked seed providers to ID hybrids that are blight resistant. I prefer heritage seeds, but according to my local extension office, we have a really tough strain of blight here that they just can't handle. So I will be measuring everything this year to determine which seeds do the best.

I ended up with mold on top of all my starts this year, but the plants seem to be doing well. This is my first time using "All" Burpee. I used their seed starting kit and their seeds. My preferred seed provider did too good a job educating me. It would appear they don't have seeds tolerant for the particular strain of blight that I'm dealing with. Or at least very few choices.

When I lived in VA I planted mid April and had some tomatoes by 4th of July. And then an abundance of them through as late as January. One year even February. Here my plants die in August because of the blight.
