Ribh's D'Coopage

The day was grey & overcast & not particularly warm.

Sunny spots were the order of the day ~ after the morning shenanigans. PatriciaPenny is getting hormonal & raced round the outside run chest bumping everyone & shrieking. She must be close to laying. Luna stood in the middle of the run & had *hiccups* for an hour. Loud hiccy hiccups. Weirdest sound ever. Ha'penny is just confused. She wanted to lay & spent the whole day racing up & down the stairs, in & out of nesting boxes, thumping around making everything just so, shrieking @ everyone [yes, it was a noisy day! :( ] & quite unable to produce the desired egg. *sigh.* And Lottie stands on that log whenever she can get it with her eyes half closed in a haze of Basil dreams.

Why don’t you just call her.. PP...

Yesterday I penned the big girls early then raked up my yard & threw all the leaf litter in their run. This morning the girls think I've handed heaven to them on a platter. I love how little it take to make chooks so very happy.:) It's wet & not particularly warm but there they are, scratching away, happy as Larry.

Meanwhile I am scratching my head about this beehive that is arriving sometime next week. It's winter. My sun angles are all different & no direct sunlight after 10am. I was thinking, no problemo ~ I can just move the hive but apparently I can't ~ not more than a metre. The bees will get lost. Okaaaay...I don't think my original choice of spot is going to work...Hmmmm:hmm Our P.O is likely to have a coronary when those bees land @ their depot. lol We order everything we can through the mail:lau

They should be grateful. John has ordered his sandstone. It is not coming by mail.:gigIt is coming 1, 045 miles by carrier from Melbourne ~ but only as far as the mainland depot when an island carrier takes over. There are 8 pallets of the stuff... If we sit it on the footpath it can kill off the grass verge while it's waiting...;)

We have all the inside of a house to organise too ~ but whenever we decide to do something we always choose outside first. Umm, yeah...

A couple of years ago, I was daydreaming about putting a hive in the roof space because there's a vent they could fly through. But with a corro roof, it'll get too hot and melt the wax I reckon.
I really don't know. They do some weird stuff when left to their own devices. Our living room walls are wood: sliptongue & saddleback & our native bees have combs happening in some of our crevices. :(
