The chickens have actually improved my roses in the year that I have had them. They pick the aphids off the roses like it's a delicacy. Somehow they don't hurt the buds or leaves. Plus all the droppings have helped to fertilized them as well.

They also scratch through the mulch and aerate the roots. I have NO weeds at all. It's wonderful! I do keep my veggie plants in my front flower bed, because they don't go to the front of the house.

Mine have stripped my rose bushes bare... there isn’t a leaf left.. so now I have “rose sticks” instead of rose bushes

Oh my! I must have well behaved chickens. They eat the weeds mainly, maybe there is some goat mixed in with them some how...

This was just last night. The little coop you see is my silkie pen. They love to forage under the pine tree and the huge Pussy Willow tree we have.

I also fall into the rose-stick category! Granted they are wild roses, and I’m not to particularly attatched to the ones I park the chickens over, but boy do they love them. The cows also think they are the second best thing after dairy texture to eat. Andrew’s grandmother used to make a rose hip vinegar, and syrup as well if I recall correctly. If I can find the recipe I might consider seeing what all the “Roses are so tasty” fuss is about

This is beautiful! Forgive me.. but by “rug” do you mean a mat for the floor or a “blanket”? Lovely no matter what.. just wondering if we call things differently... ... cuz to me it looks like a blanket folded over..

Some breeds are worse than others. Any time you see *great forager* in a breed description, you know they're the destructive sort! I've got quite a few ~ well, I would, wouldn't I! Silkies are generally much better behaved round gardens but I see ChookChook also has BRs & mine are terrors on the garden.
