Ribh's D'Coopage

lol I'm usually up by now in summer. Coolest part of the day & light enough to work. Winter ~ not so happy...but @ least the fire was still going so I am warm.
Love a nice fire when it's cold out. We have a heat pump that does ok, until it get's really cold, then the wood stove has to take over.

Wood stoves are da bomb! :D We went years without one here ~ & yeah, I know it doesn't get all that cold here but our house was built to keep out the summer heat & is freezing in winter. The fire is an absolute blessing. I appreciate it.

@Aussie-Chookmum: This is Patricia. She's a barred rock but mutated & the other rocks ignore her. She's a VERY big girl but sweet. I'm told the barring may come in when she molts ~ but then again...:idunno

Nugget: black australorp. I lost her recently but her sister is still plugging along. And Suyin, a favorelle X. Her sister, Luna, is a little lighter in colouring. They are the closest thing I have to a lap chicken; super friendly & docile, calm, get along with everybody, first out of the coop every morning because they can't wait to start their day. Both are brown egg layers, very large, very consistent but the favorelle's is quite dark while the Aussie's is more a yellow brown.

And same here.. wanted to name and tell everyone apart.. I have a mixed flock of 16... now I do have 2 Australorps.. 3 Cochin bantams... and now 4 EEs... but everyone of them are different colors.. purposely done so as to tell them apart... I may consider in the future to build an all EE flock as those come in a rainbow of colors... also, adore their quirky, friendly, oh so sweet personalities :love

I may do the same. I love these EEs.

All of you folks with pretty and fancy mixed flocks sometimes makes me regret my decision to keep birds that are critically endangered or threatened. They can be rather boring and the egg basket isn't exciting either. I need to setup a pen for non-endangered eye candy.
That's what my man has always said. If he kept chickens they'd be livestock only but there'd have to be a separate area for my eye candy! :D

Well, everyone, I am down to 10 chooks. Namaste passed last night. Not surprising, she has not been getting worse, but not better either, but she seemed herself last night when I tucked everyone up, scoffing sardines & fighting for her share of the tucker. Sad ~ but not unexpected. No way to find out what was going on either. She'd been wormed & all the regular things checked for & apart from being a little lethargic [which I put down to her molt] & being underweight was actively out & foraging every day.

I let the girls out so I could clean the coop only my 3 worst offenders refused to stay where they belong so now everyone is penned again. The upside is I now have room for a pair of blue layers. *sigh* I hate losing birds! :(
