Ribh's D'Coopage

Nutridench is what the Americans always recommend. Apparently you can get it here. I'd try your local produce store. At 4 she may be coming to the end of her laying life. I'm so sorry she's not well. :hugs

Thanks Ribh.

I'm not worried about her not laying except that she may be "backed up" or something.

I wish there was some way of telling if she is going through chicken menopause so I don't have to worry about her being eggbound. With the size of her eggs I'd be happier if she did stop laying !

That's Deana's egg on the left. They are too big to fit in egg cartons!

Yeah, I've got a couple that lay like that & I so wish they wouldn't. Is her comb colour good? You could try checking her vent but I'm squeamish that way & really can't offer any practical advice.

wow that is a BIG, big egg.:th

Yes, I feel bad for her just looking at them. They are usually thin shelled too even though she has access to shell grit and calcium supplement in one of the water bottles that I know she drinks from. :barnie

You can test for egg binding by oiling a finger and gently inserting it into the hens vent up to the second knuckle. If she is egg bound, you will be able to feel the egg.
You can use human multivitamins for chickens. I dose at about one eighth of the dose recommended for humans.

Thanks Shadrach. I'll get the lube out tomorrow. When she sees me coming she will probably lay an egg in self defense!
