Good evening Jeannie I don't know what to tell you about Lottie's egg. Some of my leghorns gave me a few of those when they first started laying. I was told they just need to work out the kinks and they eventually did.

White hens are so hard to keep clean. I hope she is showing off for all the others, look how special I look. The rest of you are so dingy.

I think she was saying "why are you all hot and panting? I'm wonderfully cool!" as she preened her wet feathers.

They were all pretty hot today. I gave them a quick hose to cool them down in addition to their ice block.

Tomorrow is supposed to reach around 39C (102F) which isn't as high as it has been, but I'm over summer already....

I thought that was thinly sliced ham at first glance. Not what you expect from a chicken.

I guess it's a lash egg? It doesn't look as yucky as other pictures I've seen. I'm glad she's acting well but it must be worrisome Ribh

I do like that your run is such a mess.
So many people strip everything out of the runs, leaving a bare space like a prison yard.

I think your run looks lovely and mulchy Ribh. I was going to ask if you rake in there regularly and how often you add mulch.

Mine looks like the surface of the moon. Cratered, dry and dusty . It's been so hot that I have been spending minimal time outside, so I haven't laid more mulch for the girls.

If I get out early enough tomorrow I may just lug whole bales in there and let the ladies do the spreading
