Happy to amuse you good folks! Actually, so far, she's been easier to handle than the youngsters. She doesn't like it but doesn't have a full on melt down either.

Any that were free range before are likely to have different patterns of behavior.

I don't know an awful lot about this hatchery's set up. There were a lot of hens free ranging when we drove in but all the birds that seemed to be for sale were in big open pens, no roosts or nesting boxes. I don't know if they were just holding pens or what...I did wonder when I saw last night's roosting behaviour.

It is amazing how much fun getting them to roost is. I wish you the best. again a for a temporary roosting environment. Last night was tough for me. I really wanted to leave them roosted where they wer since they had figured it out for themselves. The wind chill was simply too low.

Tonight the ambient air temperature will be down to 18°F (-7.7°C). I am going to bring them in. I don't feel they are mature enough for that level of cold. Fortunately, it looks like it will be only 1 night of that level of cold.

The nice thing about getting new birds about the same time as you & MJ is we're all in the same boat. I know I need to be more patient than I am by nature & take things slowly. MJ has done a wonderful job with her 2. Super impressed. Not sure I can emulate that but we shall try.

The sounds of your flock always get me. All that happy clucking with tropical birds in the background. It sounds warm and cozy. It is freezing cold here today and you brought some warmth and sunshine with this.

It's the 1st sunshine we've had in nearly 3 weeks. My girls were just so, so happy to get out. They weren't even all that interested in the newbies. It's almost like they'd already figured it out when they saw the little coop get cleaned up & they got locked out.

You cant have a better partner than one that supports more chickens. You are very lucky. What a great valentine's day present!

Congratulations. That they arrived on Valentine's Day has been amusing me all day & you are the 1st to comment. The man has gone from being totally anti~chicken to declaring his favourites. That's ok because they're mine too. One can never have too many Campines!

I've been a bit surprised to find Tribe 2 loitering around outside my house late afternoon.
They wait until Tribe 1 has moved on and cautiously make their way up the path ending up outside my door. Tribe 2 generally stick to the front of the main house; I'm at the back. Hinge would come in if it wasn't for Mag herding her away. Deeply suspicious of human habitation is Mag. Lock, the hen at the back isn't getting enough to eat due to being last in the hierarchy.
Bracket and her chicks make as far as a good cover bush just in case.

Pretty sure my man considers you a very bad influence on me! I'd let my girls in. After all, what's a little poop between friends? The man isn't keen @ all.
