That never helps but it's only the Campines. Morrigu has it in for the other 2! I considered putting her in with the old girls on her own {{{shudder}}} but it was all cruisy during the middle of the day so I'm thinking resources. I put out a 2nd feeder to be sure.

That is a good idea. I have 2 feeders for 3 newbies. Everyone needs easy access to food.

Luckily the lot here save all that getting business. However, one just doesn't know exactly what one is going to end up with.

Hopefully it is many years before I again suffer loss. I want to have some old wrinkled hens and these 3 have removed colored eggs from my future for now. I will suffer and enjoy everyone else's vicariously.

I'm blessed enough to have the coop & run space for quite a few more & if my lads ever stop crabbing long enough to put in my steps to the waterfront I will have a lovely big free range area away from the man's precious plants.

But maybe not so many years until you have a coop extension and room for more chickens?

I doubt it. A lot depends on that leghorn mix that is incubating right now. The issue is overall space in the yard. This is a suburban development. The yard handled 5 hens ok this year. I'm worried about 6 and maybe 7. I just don't have unlimited space.

Space is always the issue. I have plenty ~ but not all of it is useable.
