I have not done it on this scale before. I feel a little apprehensive right now but I know I can do it.

I feel you have a really good ratio there. Three on 3 sounds pretty good to me. I feel adding just 2 or 3 birds here would be really hard on those birds.

From 2009 to 2011 there were some forced integrations here. I put a stop to that when I finally took over the chickens completely.

What you do is optimum. Unfortunately one needs a rooster for that.

I really don't know if it is optimum Ribh. A large part of why I manage the chickens the way I do is so I can learn about their behaviour. I would love to say it's all altruism but I would be lying.

Well, I don't mind being a beneficiary of your insights. If it means I manage my chickens better so they have lives they enjoy more it's not a bad thing.

Thanks, Sue. I've only done this once before so I'm bound to make mistakes. I may be going a little early but I have to weigh that against the lack of space. I wasn't planning on 3 pretty much fully grown hens even though none of them are very large.

I think, you're in with a shout Ribh. If it was one pullet or hen then I would expect problems.

Congratulations! So that's 2 less pullets.

Another reason for putting everybody in the big coop. So far as the Araucanas are concerned they were obviously as good as hens the day I got them. I know the breeder was surprised to find a blue egg in the pen so I got them right on lay.
