Ribh's D'Coopage

I know the flighty ones can be, well, a bit difficult.:D
Actually they're pretty good in the coop. I just have to watch for zoomers past my head. They still spook if I get too close. I tried the run once & everyone was eyeing of the fence so we are waiting ~ especially as Aiofe took off & gave me palpitations! :lau Time & patience is the key with this lot. We'll get there. It just won't be fast & easy.

Yep, Alice the Araucana.

She seems pretty socially adaptable. She and Edwina have been brought up together and initially they hung around together. Since Pepper adopted Edwina though, she has been at a bit of a loose end. She started off roosting alone in the rabbit hutch and then moved in with the old girls at night. She now tends to hang around Tsuki when foraging.

She is much the calmest of my girls and the easiest to catch. She puts up less of a fuss when carried and seems the most curious with Tsuki being a close second. She’s pretty confident too.

OK. Thanks. Yep that seems to be how my 2 are shaping up. They are really, really calm, confident birds ~ which I need to balance out the Campines who are quite mad! :gigThe Wyandottes seem to sit somewhere inbetween.

Tribe 2 trying for an early supper once they see Tribe 1 has gone.

What sort of horror stories and why on earth would someone think you couldn't cope?
Well, I was a relatively new chicken owner & I was told that they'd get away & not come back...nonsense as Aoife proved. She got out & flew ~ boy, did she fly!!! But she homed back in on the coop immediately & kept homing in until I was able to grab her & pop her back in. Even this time, the seller was worried about selling me Campines until I told her I already had goldies & knew what to expect. I can't think how awful some people must find them but I imagine they could be very difficult if you never spend time with them getting them used to you.

I was working in the coop yesterday with everyone underfoot & though the Campines kept their distance they didn't have a massive melt down either.

That's a good news story. I have a lot of work to do to let my birds out to free range again... It's on the list... Working full time and trying to do these things is challenging.

Yes, it is. :) I've been on call helping out with the business & haven't had as much time for the girls as I would have liked but eventually everything will get done. It may just be a little slower than I would like.

Yes she is :rolleyes::lol:

I don’t know if she is shoving everyone off, the others prefer the floor or they all want their own space. I just know that I am envious of Ribh and her proper roosting chickens! 😜

I might have a couple of 'roost-ers' finally! ;) Nyssa and River, the salmon Faverolles appear to be roosting on the edge of the nesting box, which isn't ideal as it's quite narrow. I think I might put the (fairly useless) roosting bar back in, as it's wider than the side of the nesting box, but I'm going to have to put a screw through the wall and into the roost, so it doesn't come out easily. If they do roost, they can sleep in the new henhouse, the one I made the roost in (and Charlie turned her beak up at!) Tegan seems quite content sleeping on the ground ATM.
