Oh, gosh! Your chickens are good lookers! Perhaps sometime in the future you'll be able to let Moon sit...? I'm sure her chicks would be stunners.

She's a sweet hen.I think I'm falling in love again.
Moon is broody and she's been trying to sit in the house nest box. Much as I would love to let her because the chances are Treacle would be the father and Moon would it seems supply Marans genes heavily and the chicks may turn out cracking looking, I can't, so I've confiscated her eggs. She's been around most of the day. She's a pleasure to have in the house. She's quiet and likes to sit either at my feet or on the kitchen chair. I took a few pics.
Treacle comes by every now and then to check on her.

At least they come home for food. There is that.On the chicken front...we have been busy & our weather has been dodgy. It was after lunch before the girls got into the run yesterday. They made their displeasure known by the majority hopping the fence. The Big Girls all just squat for me. The bantams can be handled after a fashion. The Campines & 1 Aracauna scooted round & round the perimeter until they decided it was time to hop back over.
They will be in lockdown again today because it is a mainland day & though the girl is here she refuses to be responsible for the chickens. I can't say I blame her.
Within an hour everyone was looking for food so I started dishing up for the milling throng. Suddenly, out of the far distance, 2 black & white birds hurtled towards the pen!! I hadn't even noticed they were missing. Frantic they were going to miss out on supper ~ & serve them jolly well right! I counted heads. Yep, Suyin was still out foraging. She has almost no interest in the commercial feed @ present & has grown very thin. Her molt is nearly finished so hopefully things will improve.
I would expect extra protein. Those feathers take a lot. I always up the protein when they are molting.Shad, a lot of it seems to be plain old dirt...I know she always goes for the deep leaf litter areas so there must be bugs & grubs there ~ so extra protein?
I've been in love with the pair of them for a while now. They are both gorgeous.I think I'm falling in love again.
