Here's some hugs for you bothThe news is not good. After monitoring Medh all morning & deciding there was no improvement, plus her belly seemed full & squishy, so I got an emergency appointment with the visiting vet who checked Medh pretty thoroughly. Not egg bound, which is the only good news. There is some respiratory thing going on on the right side. I have some medication for her but I suspect Ascites for which there is no cure & only dubious treatment. We will see how we go over the weekend but just now I feel sick. I went to so much trouble to acquire these girls & I really don't want to lose one so young.
Oh no. I am so, so, sorry to hear that. The news is not good. After monitoring Medh all morning & deciding there was no improvement, plus her belly seemed full & squishy, so I got an emergency appointment with the visiting vet who checked Medh pretty thoroughly. It was worse but I was ready for a rough day. Today will be ugly too but again I'm prepared.Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it will be a bit less rough than you expect.
But in any case, it is good to be prepared.
It's always best when you know its coming an are prepared for it.It was worse but I was ready for a rough day. Today will be ugly too but again I'm prepared.
Are you planning to lice check everyone now?Suyin dustbathing.
I think we finally have the nasties on the run. She had a really good dust bathe & groom & seemed perkier than she has been in some time.

Now it's Medh I'm worried about.
She seemed a little of on Tuesday when I got home from the doctors but as I was swimming in medication myself I had to let it go but yesterday she was looking tatty & not herself @ all. My heart plummeted. I know how fast a chook can go down hill.
I managed to nab her ~ no mean feat ~ & shoved her head under my jacket so I could dust her & check her over. A ton load of lice dropped out so I scooped her up & took her inside for electrolytes & meal worms. She seemed to be doing better when I popped her back in the coop; head up, eyes bright, paying attention to the alerts & showing some interest in the food.
Keeping chooks is so worrying. There always seems to be something ~ & just as everything seems nicely settled & going well. I hope lice is all that is wrong with my poor girl & I haven't missed something!

Edited to correct mites to lice. Sorry peoples. I have been drugged & am not functioning @ my best.
Chicken TV is much better than the electronic version.Sounds like lice rather than mites.
And yup, it never stops; or at least it doesn't here. Just get one problem sorted and another shows up. I suppose if one had fifteen dogs or cats it would be much the same.If it isn't health it's behavior.
As I say to myself 'never mind. You could always be watching TV instead'.

I hope it's nothing serious and you are feeling better soon. Thanks, RC. I had some minor surgery on Tuesday but I don't do well even with a general anaesthetic. It makes me silly & sick. I am ok, just not feeling particularly bright & on top of my ball game.
