It's been a while since I did a roosting post. That's Hepzibah cocking her head @ me wondering how serious I am about keeping her up there. Serious enough. I moved everyone into the Big coop as Broody jail has no protection & our weather has turned inclement & downright nasty. My good little bantams hopped up on a roost & settled down. Hepzibah got into a nesting box as soon as she thought I wasn't watching so she is back in broody jail. I will go out later & put her back on a roost as it is a mainland day tomorrow & I don't want to be fretting about a naughty chook.

All my big girls managed a top roost tonight but I swear there's something wrong with my Aracaunas. They haven't paled up with anyone, not even each other, & tend to hang on the edges of the flock. Beatha will come to eat from my hand but they are pretty skittish still.

That's a good idea Sue. Some conversations just make more sense when you read all the threads concerned. Some of us are prone to *senior moments* & forget where we're posting!

I always wondered why you didn't go for straight Aracaunas. Ok, so your rumpless variety is a bit odd looking but they still lay blue eggs & the colour is more reliable than an EE.

I went with EEs for the surprise. I thought it would be like Christmas present. You never know. The anticipation was fun. The end result, well a little disappointing.

Mrs BY Bob was very disappointed in the egg color project. I actually failed at it 4 times. Jabberwocky was supposed to be an EE hen. No eggs at all there. I ordered a Super Blue hybrid that was supposed to lay blue eggs. It was to come with Jabber and Hattie but it did not hatch. Then there was Maleficent and Aurora which everyone knows about.

I don't know if Maleficent could have been any more special to me, but just imagine if she had actually laid a blue or green egg. I miss you mooch!
