Being able to do things other than talk makes a lot of difference I think. My sister has no creative outlets and is mostly destructive.

Sounds like my middle sister. She has no hobbies and tends to self destructive behaviour .

I think creative outlets and hobbies are very important for mental health. It gets one out of oneself regularly.

The best explanation of introversion/extroversion is not behaviour based; it is where you get your energy. Extroverts rely on an outside source; introverts rely on alone space ~ so though I can, on occasion ,talk down the moon, I get my energy from being alone ~a lot. My brother, who got his energy from being with other people, was always invading my space & drove me crazy because it was exhausting for me.

My youngest son has married into a very extroverted family & they are driving him crazy. They have no creative pursuits so are always arriving unexpectedly & uninvited & gate crashing his alone time. He finds it maddening & it makes him crotchety.

It can make us seem cold & uncaring, not usually true.

I'm afraid I'm with the Hamlets of this world: There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. The world [not people] is a most wonderous thing & full of marvels.

That explanation sounds right to me.

If we have visitors over for any length of time my eldest will disappear into her room to recharge. So does hubby.

When I've had enough I just encourage the visitors to leave

I agree. My problem with people like my sister is it doesn't take me long to resent being fed off, if that makes sense. I like to give if I can, but there are times when I need the energy I can generate for myself.

Anyway, I'm going back to bed. mrs Badger woke me up knocking the ash bucket off its bricks. I must remember to put something in it to keep it weighed down. She gets between it and the wall on her way to the water.

It is very steep & one reason for confining the girls. If I was 20 instead of 60 it wouldn't be an issue, but I'm not & it is.

What amuses me is the Campines headed straight back to the run. It was my sweetest little hen who totally ignored me!
