Ribh's D'Coopage

Yes! It's very frustrating when a mature tree comes down in the neighborhood.
I had a maple tree in my side yard so large that I could not reach around it. It shaded the western side of my house. It also filled my gutters and pool skimmer with helicopter seeds but it was a trade off that we both accepted and we lived in harmony with each other.

Then the township decided that it was going to infiltrate the sewer line and they cut it down. No matter what I wanted. Mrs BY Bob and I both cried to see it go. It was spectacular. All of those sunsets I post look right through where that tree stood. 😥

I love when mist starts feathering out of the low places. 🥰

I have started planting in hopes of a summer crop.

The renovating neighbours were using our outside water to wash up last week & the plumber commented on how much cooler & better smelling our yard was.
This is why. We have an upper story to protect what's underneath so even though we have sandstone rather than grass our yard still stays cool in the heat rather than baking.

Yep. We're still renovating...🙄
Not quite done inside or out just yet.
I also love mist like that. Beautiful.

I just love your yard. I think it is marvelous. I wish i had tree cover like that.

I'm down to just a couple of trees since they cut down the big maple. I have birch over the coop, the magnolia, my two tiny apple trees, a dwarf red maple and a Myrtle that has survived in our climate. I need to plant a couple more, especially one to replace the maple without imperiling the sewer line somehow. That will be a job for the spring.

If only the whole island was of the same mind.

Just imagine if everyone else moved off the island and all we chook friends moved in. There'd be chickens and bees and native plants everywhere and all the dogs would be in their own yards so you could free range to your heart's content! 🥰🥰🥰
What a lovely dream...........💤 😍

Good morning Bob 😊 have a great Friday

Everything I plant flowers in some way and at different times of the year if I can manage it.

That bush in front of the coop typically swarms with honey bees in September when it is flowering. It gets wonderful light purple blossoms.

You can see it here in the background as Phyllis zips by.View attachment 2356961

Some bees

The light golden bee is our honey bee.

As I said above, every year that bush would be swarming with friendly honey bees. I got very concerned this year when I did not see a single honey bee until mid September. By the end of the month they had arrived but I am betting that my typical colony is no more and another finally found the bush later in the month. The bumblebees had free use of the pollen for at least 2 weeks.
:(

These are beautiful pictures 😍 thank you for sharing. Bees are amazing to watch, I just get creeped out getting close to the hive. When we went to one of our first bee classes to learn about them, we went to the hives, suited up and the sound that many bees make was just way too much for me😱 I had to go wait in the truck and the sound was still so loud.

I am fascinated by them and would love to have a hive but I think that might just push the neighbors over the limit. I love that I can walk right up to them when they are on that bush and they pay me no nevermind at all.

That's awesome 😁 thank goodness our neighbors don't mind and where we live, we have lots of room. We couldn't have done this in Virginia, neighbors are almost sitting on top of each other 😞.
I.I'm not a fan of bees, but I do love honey 😁

When we bought our property the first thing we did was put in our well & we planted treelines all the way around the area where our house would be! That was back in 1991! We needed a wind break & we wanted to provide food and shelter for birds and other small animals! It has also made our yard more private! Our property was sand and sagebrush, we have planted over 300 trees & shrubs!
This is our largest treeline it is 5 rows deep, 1 row of shrubs, 2 rows of deciduous & 2 rows of evergreens! It slows down the wind & definitely keeps our place cooler! Beyond the tree's it is still sand and sagebrush!
