Thank you...my husband was the one with the vision for our yard, I'm just his helper...he also knew we would be spent by the time we finished building our house & wouldn't want to mess with putting a treeline in, we didn't put our lawn in until we'd been in the house for a couple of years! We started building in 92 & moved into the house in 95!
A well chook I wouldn't think twice about but we're not talking an hour or 2. We're talking pretty much a full day excursion ~ a lot of it in heat or wind. I know it's a risk waiting but I have to weigh that against everything else. I don't just stick her in the car for a 1/2 hour drive. She's in & out of cars, bumpy boat rides [our weather is rather wild just now], hiked along a hot road to where we park our car, & she's really, really fragile. So yeah...You might choose differently & if she gets worse so might I but for now...
I seem to remember seeing a documentary where the bees would surround the hornet and vibrate their wings. This heats up the immediate area and the hornet, which is covered in bees, basically cooks to death.That would be like the rooster dance then.
The hornets hover outside the opening to the hive and when the bees come out the attack the bees. Eventually the bees stop coming out and the hive dies.
The French bees apparently make a ball around thhe hornet and I'm not sure if they sting it to death or incappacitate it.
The advantage the bees have is they are cooperative while the hornets aren't.
I'm not very well clued up on this I might add.
I don't think the bees sting the hornet for some reason.
She's not pooping a lot because she doesn't eat that much but this morning it was watery ~ but given how much water she consumed that didn't surprise me.
I'll mention it to the vet when I see her...
She @ least keeps chooks herself so understands why I drag mine along when they're unwell.

Yes it definitely has...we actually have a layer of soil now instead of just blow sand!
On a slightly different note I have been chatting with my breeder again about acquiring some more Golden Campines.
So far she only has 3 chicks ~ & they could all be male!
I was sorta hoping they'd be available for my birthday this month but that's looking dubious.
We have put aside the money for these girls so I don't want it burning a hole in my pocket for too long!
