What is a *white night*? Second time you've mentioned it and I have no idea, since you're not living near either of the poles?

Oh dear. Our slang doesn't translate real well across the ocean. It just means a sleepless night.

You mentioned something about South Africa...? If you go to your account details you can add your general location ~ which is hugely helpful when we are discussing predators, medicines ~ or plants. ~ or when to curb the slang somewhat.

I love scented plants also. I have a beautiful Carolina Jasmine growing outside my bedroom window. I recently planted a Tea Olive tree- also called a Fragrant Olive. I am so pleased with it, although it is slow growing. I have gardenia in my front beds, love the smell. Also, 5 drift roses, the smell is not very strong, but the blooms are plentiful and make great arrangements in the house. The only fragrant thing I hate so far is that blamed honeysuckle- that invasive sucker has almost killed the crepe myrtle on the side of the house. I have had a real battle trying to get that removed from the yard. Any suggestions on fragrant trees or bushes I can put in the back that takes full sun??

I'm sorry. As an Aussie I have no idea what is available in your part of the U.S ~ let alone what would grow there. We are sub~tropical & lots of the scented plants I know [I grew up further south where they do grow] won't grow up here. I have managed to seed most of my raised beds with freesias, which are gorgeous & will take full sun & my Mock Orange is in full sun too. I have a star jasmine just starting to get a move on on the verandah. Daphne is nice ~ but I killed mine. I love lilac but it probably won't grow up here. I haven't got round to trying yet. Some of the magnolias are strongly scented ~ the chooks killed mine. A google search will turn up other things I'm sure.

I'm keeping her separated for a bit Bob. It doesn't seem to be stressing her ~ she can see & hear everybody else. She let out an almighty screech to announce her arrival when I let her out this morning. I'd shut the pop door so I could monitor her descent. She jumped down. Not even a tiny wobble.

Our drought has just broken. They say this year is la Niña.

Yes. They are saying we will have a bad cyclone season this year. They don't often come all the way down the coast to us but we could see a lot more rain.

I'm not allowed to keep a rooster ~ which is daft. I had a lead hen who crowed for a bit so go figure.

She really is something isn't she! I don't have other brownish hens either so she does really stand out.

In South Africa, they are an invasive alien.

You must have a similar soil & climate to us then. Most of our natives have a reputation for not doing so well in foreign soils.
