Howdy, Ribh! That lavender bird is so cute. I haven't seen a frizzled type look quite that plush and pretty. Beatha reminds me of a yeti with that bearded face/head! All of your birds are beauties!

Meg!!!! So lovely to *see* you. I must get back to the cafe ~ but it has been an ongoing madhouse here.

Frizzles are actually a breed in Australia & there is a breed standard for both standards & bantams. My breeder only had this lavender girl but she'd been holding onto her hoping for someone who would really appreciate her. I do. And she's an excellent layer as well.

Beatha is a splash Aracauna ~ ours aren't rumpless like yours are. She's an odd looking girl but very sweet.

I understand, Shad, but being thin & being emaciated are 2 different things. Most of my girls are on what I would call the thin side ~ meaning their keel bone is quite prominent but they have weight to them when I pick them up. I don't have scales so can't actually weigh her but she weighs almost nothing ~ & she should; she has a bigger frame.

Judging by feel, it's almost impossible to tell if a chicken is gradually losing or gaining weight. Anything that will weight down to a gram would do.

What does she like Ribh? Meat? Fish? I know you don't.
What's her poop like? Can you post some pictures of her and her poop. Need to see under the feathers if possible.
Weight loss here is usually due to worms if there is no other obvious illness. You know this anyway, but is it possible that she has cecal worms that your usual wormers aren't treating?

Worms was my first thought but I've never seen any sign of worms. She's a very light eater; she'd rather forage. She's been getting some fish ~ salmon or tuna but she usually doesn't finish what I put out for her. Meat ~ but again only a little 2 a time.

Her poops are not very solid. They were quite watery when I put her in the small coop. They are getting better with more solid matter. I'll see if I can get pictures. Apparently I'm babysitting today so lets hope I don't have a senior moment & forget about it completely.

Yep. My OD is doing social work @ uni & I got tired of the PC stuff she was throwing @ me so I suggested she look up the Barbary pirates & what they traded in. She was googling so fast I thought we'd have lift off! Everyone likes to point out that the chappie who wrote Amazing Grace was a slave trader but @ one point he was also a slave. For history you really do need to see the big picture.

Worming is often portrayed as a very straightforeward business, but ime it is far from that. To be sure, I've found dosing the chickens individually was the best option and using a wormer that has a proven track record. I can't get a good wormer here for example so I have to get one from the UK.
I use Flubenvet which is a flubendazle based wormer. For bad cases I give double the recommended dosage.
Being able to weigh chickens is really essential.

Thanks Shad. I'll look into it. I just use the wormer my produce store recommended. I think I might try the vet as I'm pretty sure I'll have trouble getting my hands on this. I've never seen it on the shelves.
