Ribh's D'Coopage

Please trust me, I did not take it as critical. I really don't know how much you have read or going long you have followed so I was explaining in case you did not know.

Coincidentally, BY Bob just asked me if I wanted to move out to the country to have more chickens, a rooster like Ned, and a bigger garage, etc.
And do you?

Oh dear - I hope I told you the right thing! I have only ever had the two little tiny chicks - but I did read up about grit. If they are outside they will find their own in the ground too I suspect!
I've never supplied grit here. They find it themselves when free ranging.
Pulverised granite is best I'm told for contained chicks.

You self~medicating again Shad? Now it's spells. :lau:gig
I'm thinking about it Ribh, I'm thinking about it........
Not short of self medicating options around these parts. I could get the witch to knock me up something I suppose if things get worse.

I also did not know this. Thanks for sharing Shad. Can i do harm without knowing it?
That is the problem. You can harm them and not know it.
It seems incredible when you watch how mum kicks them about when scratchinng for food. But, they are so light when tiny that they just roll around like little balls of fluff. It's gripping them, or dropping them that usually causes the problems.
I read somewhere that the casual way chicks are handled at some hatcheries is responsible for some of the problems the chickens have in later life.
Organ damage is high on the list which may not show itself until the chick has grown up a bit. Mother hens have been known to damage their chicks accidentally particularly in staggered hatches.
I often wonder if this is what happened to Barkinng Bracket when she hatched.

You are so considerate. @WhoDatChick was poking me today because I missed her addition of another cat. Thankfully Mrs BYBob drove us around today and I could catch up the 2 days I was behind on her's while we were between stores. Not all of us have our Christmas shopping already done. 😉

You take a day off around here and you miss something significant. :barnie
I still think you missed something else 🤔.... Ima go check and I’ll let you know😜

Those girls have such amazing personalities! Look at them giving you the eye...is she going to move me...I'm going to lay an egg...I'm not broody...I'm really not...:gig
Ha. The war is on. Luna had kicked a box out of the nesting boxes so she could lay this morning & both Alpia & Wrold were squeezed together sitting on her egg. Meanwhile Beatha was screaming @ both of them & pecking away so she could get in the box to lay. 🙄 There is trouble brewing thanks to those 2. The flock is pissed.

In the US when we refer to grit, we're talking about granite or quarts. hard bits of rock that line the gizzard.
Here grit is a mix tiny shells & oyster crushed up. The girls chowed down on what I banged up :lau for them yesterday but I think they could probably manage the big stuff. Nothing is real big.

You are going to be just fine. They are really not that different than POL. They are just more malleable to your wishes,.
I don't know about that, Bob... :lau They're chickens & seem pretty determined to do whatever they like no matter what I say.
