Ribh's D'Coopage

A few weeks ago the Littlies were peeping & chirping. They sounded like a flock of little songbirds.

Yesterday afternoon, @ feeding time, my big girls sounded the alarm.
Everyone was still & alert & all looking in the same direction though whatever was bothering them wasn't something I could see.

Next thing I hear a deep, low growl. I looked round wildly wondering just what strange animal had got into my yard but, no. It was Gloriana alerting all the littlies. They were all paying attention to the big girls & doing exactly the same thing.

I wish I'd been able to record it. None of my chickens have ever made a noise like that before!

And it was Gloriana. She's usually so quiet & timid!

They are learning from the big girls already. That amazes me, how when trouble seems near, they all fall in as a united group.

I was very surprised. Mostly the 2 groups have ignored each other ~ but not on this occasion!

I have an excess of eggs just now so tonight's dinner was floating island pudding.
If I leave out most of the sugar it's almost healthy.
The white forms a soft meringue & the yolk is used to make the custard.
Yum!

I used to read about this whenever I reread The Friendly Persuasion.
In the end I had to look it up & try it for myself.
It is beautifully simple!
I could enjoy that. I made my poor imitation of paella. Maybe @Shadrach will recognize it.

I am a great Morai!
I take the kids for the day, run them ragged all morning & they both crashed for the afternoon.

While we waited on the tide coming in we hunted frogs & tadpoles & looked @ the new eggs. The kids were enchanted.

The lad was enraptured to find soldier crabs & puffer fish trapped in the swimming enclosure. We looked both up on google when we got home & proceeded to watch videos. Before I knew it the lad had joined his sister in slumber land. :gig

That is how it's done! Way to go. :clap :clap

I hope so. I'm a mean grandparent. I expect them to behave & pull the plug if they don't behave themselves. I'm too old to put up with the nonsense their parents tolerate ~ & they are much better behaved for us. 😆
Isn't it interesting how that works. 🤔

They probably appreciate you for it too! "We have fun at Grandma's and I know where I stand"

We never wanted to visit our paternal grandparents growing up. They were from the "children should be seen and not heard" generation (My Nana was born in 1901). We were expected to sit quietly while the adults talked or play with a small box of broken, 20 year old toys. The back yard was pretty dull too.🙁
