Daylight Saving was introduced to my state when I was a child. I hated it then & think it complete nonsense now. It is light here by 4am in summer. No need to be getting up in the dark. So far the naysayers have stopped it in my present state & for all the businesses screaming ~ there is such a thing as flexi~time. :p
And flexi-time is.....?

Do you guys not have it? Basically you can choose to start work earlier or later to fit in with your personal schedule. So Qld businesses could choose to start some employees @ 8am & finish @ 4pm to fit in with the other eastern states. Other employees might prefer to work the regular 9~5. It gives businesses huge amounts of flexibility.

Here, start and stop times are the purvue of the employer. Many allow you to flex but others like where my wife works assign you a shift and that is that. In the course of 2 weeks Mrs BY Bob will have 3 different start/stop times as they stage coverage based upon workload. She does not get to choose.

My husband didn't like going to work in the dark, but he preferred having more daylight at the end of his 10 hour work day. Working down inside the dam all day, with a few trips topside per day was just not enough. A lot of days he went to work in the dark & came home after dark. I just wish they'd leave it one way or another.

Yes; things like nursing, pilots, flight attendants etc are rostered but for businesses that have a lot of admin flexi~time is the norm any way. One parent starts @ 9.30 after school drop off; the other finishes at2.45 for school pick up. When I worked as a librarian we were encouraged to flex as it's a whole heap easier to get books back on the shelves when you have no customers

I'm so privileged. I get to choose my own hours, except for things like meetings and appointments.

I once had an entire winter like that. I went into the hospital before the sun came up and left after the sun was down. I got pretty squirrelly by the time spring arrived. Not to mention pale. That was a lot of fluorescent light.
