Yeah, Marlow will sit & squeak @ me if I have the spot he wants ~ usually a space I usually sit in. I figure it's a scent thing.One of mine got a bit grumpy when I started working from home due to Covid. It too me a while to figure out that he was used to taking over my desk chair when I left for work each day. I had to give him a little bean bag chair right next to it so we could ‘share’.
Scent I am sure, but in my case also warmth. I have heating under the floor in my home office and it gets trapped under my big desk. So if the chair is pushed in under the desk it is a dark, heated, and cushioned cave. Nothing better!

And these chairs are sort of like wing chairs so the cats feel very safe in them. Kirby is usually in the other one.
