Oh no! I'm so sorry.
Cynthia, I'm so sorry. You were so kind when I lost my girls in a dog attack. It hurts so much. I don't think any of us should feel ashamed when we get upset over a chicken's loss - a pet is a pet and the death of a pet is always awful and painful.

Sorry to hear that Cyn. my condolences.
I'm sorry about Lacy.
Here's what I think, I think when we love someone, be they furry, feathered, or human, we give them a share of our heart (like shares in a company). That share stays with them, even when they go on to Heaven before us. So when we get a new chicken, doggie, horse, we get someone new to love and our heart grows to accomodate the new love "share", because we know that sharing our lives with them makes living here on earth more worthwhile.
What's extra nice in reading all these condolences is that people have some of her chicks, and are downloading those beautiful photos of her (I know I would be), so she will be remembered as a mama and grandma.

Oh, were it true! Lacy never had a fertile egg. She was the first lady to tell Hawkeye he was on HER turf when he came out of quarantine and I dont believe he ever forgot it, LOL. I never saw him mate her, not once. She was special, nonetheless, for her sweet, little girl voice and her plucky spirit. Even though I have over 30 chickens, there is a void in the flock, and it will seem a bit empty for a long time, I fear. I appreciate all the sweet sentiments and condolences; thank you again.
