RIP Laddie----Very sad-----Going to have to put a horse down

Thank you all soooo much for the kind words, you have no idea how nice it is to hear them all, its really nice. I was at with Laddie at 2 this morning, I tried for the longest time to get him up and he just wasnt getting up, So I layed down with him and hugged him and cryed and prayed that he would get. After laying there for awhile and crying on him, I got up to go into the house and I thought I would try just ONE more time and to my surprise, he GOT UP, I was soooo happy, I got him some treats, gave him some hay and water a stayed him awhile then I came into the house. I woke Greg up[my partner] and told him that Laddie is up and eating, so we sat for a moment and cryed. When greg got at 4 to get ready for work, Laddie was still up. When I went out to check on Laddie at 9, he was down, but when I went in the stall to him, he got up, I was soooo happy, Im hoping and praying that just MAYBE he will pull thru after all. Im hoping the worse is over and he is getting better, but I know things can change very fast.

Thanks again to all of you, it really means alot to me that you all care so much.

Kelly I got your PM, Thank you very much. Thanks to everyone for the advice. We are giving him Bute and the vet has givin him some other stuff, I cant remember what all now. The vet did tell us we have to walk him some, but not too much. I just came in from working with him. He was down again, but got up with very little help from me, that was such a relief. I walked him to the water trough and after he got some, I made him walk around some in the stall and he wanted to go outside, so I left him go. When I came in he was eating grass and walking some on his own. Im so relieved. He is a different horse today from yesterday. The way he was acting yesterday, I thought for sure we would be putting him down today. You have no idea how happy I am today that he is showing some improvement. I hope and pray that he keeps getting better. I do know that I could be go back out in a hour and he could be gone to heaven, one never knows.

I have to get ready to go to work, so he will be by himself for a few hours, but I called the nieghbor and asked that they keep an eye on him till Greg gets home. They will.

Thanks again to you all for the kind words and advice.......................

Oil for colic not founder.

Founder is a hoof issue not a stomach issue.
Not to be rude but be careful giving advice like this. Too much oil for a horse that has foundered can cause a flare up.

Hoof trimming. pads, diet change a variety of things are neede in the case of founder.

The coffin bone rotates inside the hoof capsul and will eventually poke throught he soul of the hoof in untreated.

Here is a link that shows a pic

Here is one with some good explanation for the layman

I hope your horse gets better. Its very hard to lose them. Good luck and God Bless

What is laminitis and founder?
Equine laminitis is a vascular disease associated with areas of ischemia or hemostasis within the laminae. The laminae secure the coffin bone/distal phalanx to the hoof wall. Inflammation associated with delamination interferes with the wall/bone bond. In advanced laminitis, the coffin bone becomes detached from the horny wall and may rotate or sink. In lay terms, this is known as “founder,” from the maritime term meaning to sink.
