RIP Oven

I got the cheapest basic electric stove/oven that Home Depot carried, I think it's GE brand. about $360 I think.

I've been Super-happy with it

I got a Whirlpool Gold a little over a year ago and I think it's fair to say I'm in LOVE!

I will NEVER buy another Whirlpool appliance again!
Not because I think anybody else's appliances are "better" per se, they're all the same crap IMO, but because of the way I was treated when trying to get my broken washer fixed/replaced by Whirlpool.

I have a Bosch gas (propane) oven and I love it. It's stainless steel, but I believe they have black and maybe white to shave some off of the cost. I bought it through Sears when the appliances were on sale (about this same time of year). Did my research and have been happy. Watch the ads because it's seems like when we bought ours (like I said same time of year), Sears, Home Depot, Lowes were all having sales. The Sears website was helpful because they had lots of reviews from actual buyers, so even if it's cheaper somewhere else check Sears website to see what the reviews are. Good luck!

Stay way way away from GE. My whole kitchen is high dollar stainless steel GE appliances and in one year the microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher have all broke down. I even had a GE stainless toaster and it lasted 6 months!!! The only good thing going for me is the stove but give it another 6 months and I'm sure it will break down as well. Anyone want to trade appliances with me???

I have found the appliance stores to have better pricing and models than places like Home Depot or Lowes. However, some of them have high pressure sales persons. Consumer Reports has reliable evaluations of models and brands. Come up with a feature list of must haves and must have nots as well as like to haves and like to avoids. Then shop to see where you can find the best value to meet your needs.

Don't exclude eperience with previous brands...I will never own another Maytag due to the crappy service on my former dishwasher.

Thanks y'all. I am going to do some pricing/sniffing out places this week. See what I have to work with. Yea for the grill and grilling weather!

My oven was made in the 60's...............I was made in the 70's. I try to kill mine. but it still works, ugly old GE. someday I'll have a new stove, maybe

I thought the same thing.

I figured if the chicken's name was Oven, it couldn't be missed too much.

Anywho....my MIL got a new stove a couple years back. Her's is the glass top, which she loves; however, it is not MY favorite part (it is great, but I also like gas, so I not partial to either). My favorite part is that it has a regular oven, then a smaller oven that is between the big oven and stove top. At T-giving, for example, she cooks the turkey in the big oven, meanwhile she had her sausage stuffing and yams cooking in the top. Then, when the turkey and sides are done, she turns the top on warm, takes the turkey out to carve it and puts the rolls in the bottom oven to cook. EVERYTHING is steaming hot for dinner!! I LOVE the fact she has 2 ovens and it is a normal slide in unit like we all have (stove/oven combo), so no converting cabinets or counter space to have 2 ovens!

That will be the primary feature I want in my next stove (unfortunately, ours works great as it is fairly new (my SIL moved, but didn't want to give up her brand new stove, so she switched with ours and sold her house with our old one!

It'll be a while before ours goes out).
