I believe my Light Brahma rooster got over zealous with this lady. I don't know for sure, but it's a hunch? I suppose it could have been from one of the other hens. I have 9 hens and 1 roo. Found her like this in the afternoon. We brought her inside to investigate further, she ate and drank with no issues. All ten in the flock are 20 weeks old, the Roo started crowing last week. Should I put her back in the coop or keep her separated for a few days? She doesn't seem bothered. I didn’t find any evidence of predators getting in. Should I cull the Roo? One of my Salmon Favorelles was a little bloody on her comb this morning too when I opened the door this morning.

I wouldn't put her back in with the other chickens until you've treated her and found something to cover it up. Chickens can get nasty when injured birds are involved. It's good that she doesn't seem to be bothered!

I haven’t had to use these product personally but have heard nothing but good about them..hopefully they can make your girl heal up faster! You should be able to buy them at Tractor supply or Rural king.

She may have ripped it on fencing, a staple or nail sticking out. Possibly from a cockerel or could have been fighting a bit and a claw got her - without seeing it happen...who knows.

I would clean it up, wash the blood off her. Dry her well. Blu Kote might cover it o.k.
Some use a bit of pine tar.
Generally I leave a bird with the flock with minor injuries, but do observe closely to make sure they are not picked at. A lot depends on the status that they have within the flock. At 20wks, usually the pecking order is (sort of) established.

Nope. I would not cull the cockerel. Take time to observe his behavior with the pullets. With them being all the same age - he may be a bit rough on them (he's hormonal and at that age the pullets usually want none of it), but shouldn't be drawing blood.

I wouldn't cull the cockerel, he young. He's just learning the ropes of mating and how to treat the ladies. If his behavior continues in the months to come then I would remove him.

I just had a cockerel that I gave time to see if he would start acting right, he didn't so I removed him. He was 7 months old, I kept his brother though. My flock has changed drastically since he's left. My Cochin let me pet her yesterday, she never did that before and was antisocial when that cockerel was still around.
