RIR + Barred rock with pics. what do you think?

give them time say like a month. your production red and barred rock will start laying bigger eggs by then (or at least should be)

Roni - I was so looking forward to finally seeing an answer on the RIR: whether "she" was definitely a pullet or not.

I'm new to all of this too. And although I bought 5 chicks hoping for all females, when I posted pics at about 6-7 weeks I got several comments that maybe even 2-3 were roo's :-(...

So I'm curious to see what gender your RIR turned out to be. My vote would have been a pullet, but I'm a newbie ;-).

Congratulations!! Unfortunately I had 2 definite roo's.

I had 2 roo's so far in my batch; I'm about 90% sure my Sexlink is also a roo

. I took my RIR back to the breeder and will take back my Sexlink once I am sure it's a roo, and she'll give me 2 more chicks. Although I'm glad for her willingness to work with me, it sure is a pain starting again (for the 3rd time).

I got my initial batch which are about 19 weeks old; then I got two others when I realized my BO was a roo and they are about 10 weeks old. So if we get two more in the next week or so, then all will be about 10 weeks apart. But if we end up with 5-6 pullets we'll be good - although much more work than I anticipated.

So again, contgrats to you!
