RIR Breed Thread

Chris,
Got the hens from a breeder close by and the roo (cockerels dad) from a friend. The cockerels pictured are the offspring from the two. I am somewhat new to this and would like to know more info to get the best quality out of what i have.

Hey RIR folks!!!

I picked up some RIR hatching eggs from a lady that my DW works with and they turned out to be red-sex links. Nothing malicious, she just didn't know what she had. If I put my RIR rooster with the pullets and continue to feed in pure stock, how many generations until I can declare the offspring RIR?

Thanks

Does anyone know of a breeder close to Indiana that has rose comb rir bantams. I would like to purchase eggs or a trio to get me started. I have never shown but I think I would like to start. Thank You Chris Hudson

The
above sites will get you going. The second site in a minute or two will show you on u tube the champion Rose Comb bantam. These are the best in the USA.

I dont know anyone who has Rose Comb bantams in Indiana. I know about every Rhode Island Red breeder who has bantams in the coutnry.

I use to be President of the Rhode Island Red Club of America and can help you get some true to standard breed R I Red bantams. Dont confuse these with the large chickens you buy at the feed stores or hatcherys those are not Rhode Island Reds.

Hope this helps you if you need more help post a message on the web site message board and I am sure some of the guys in that region can help you. There will be some at the big chicken show at Columbus Ohio in Nov.

The large fowl have been shrunk down to a bantam a 22 year project. Hope they are not to dark in color? bob

Very
good web site and look at the buildings and read her answer and question section.

These are very nice large fowl reds and for those who wonder the difference between Standard Breed Rhode Island Reds and the most common Commercial reds look at these pitures.

She also sells eggs and if you want to get a start and want eggs this strain will do the job.

There is a lot of back yard hobbyest who want the real Rhode Island Reds and it is vary hard to find today. bob

Love the picture of the little boy holding the Rhode Island Red Ckl. Which strain are the pictures from. I think you have to lines one from the South and one from New England. Any pictures of the New Endland birds? bob

Here's our Rhode Island Red bantam hen! She was one of our first chickens and has the best personality out of all our chickens! She will pretty much do anything for food!
