RIR Brooding again

Yep, shes a bit agressive at the moment!
The rooster doesnt look like he has the correct shape and colour. The hen is darker which is closer to the hertiage colour. Would need some closer pics. But looking like productions.
Did you get them from a hatchery?

I ordered them as heritage RIR poults from rual king. RK gets them from a hatchery which one(s) I dont know. Well i guess i cant complain to much they were .89 a piece and have layed lots of eggs. My only complaint is they are mean chickens. Im going cull them out for soup around the Oct/Nov timeframe anyways, as soon as my BOs come into lay.

But now i know they are production RIRs that explains a lot of my troubles...

Thanks - i learn something everytime I log into BYC :)

Mine are pretty mean too. They do great once I let them out on free range though (after noon/laying) and they lay so many eggs they're worth having around. I'll just have to try to cull the meanest ones out and see if I can breed a better disposition into my birds.

Somehow i added two RIR hens. Best i can figure its the opposite of theft. Someone must have put two more hens in the yard and i'll bd doggone if i can tell which ones are the new ones but forsure i have two more than i did earlier this week. It's that chicken math again

Haha at least they didnt dump a rooster! Ive had that! If they are laying eggs and thats what you want you should keep them if you dont want broodys you should look at a breed that hardly goes broody.
Probably wise to treat everything for mites just in case the new ones have brought them in.

I've keep DE along with saw dust in their dust bather - so mites shouldn't be much of a issue.

Very first pip - its so eggciting

Not sure if thats a beak or a claw - but pertty cool never the less.

Looks like a "red" baby to me! Some of my hens are darker than others and when my first batch hatched I noticed some looked more like chipmunks (stripes and such) than others. I think the ones with stripes came from my darker hens.
I wish my RIR's would go broody! You're lucky.
