RIR girls????

So the other correct name for,a PR,would be production RIR?

Well it could be IF there were no other breeds added and it looked like a R.I. Red.
To my knowledge there are no hatcheries that sells a bird that looks like a R.I. Red, what they do sell is a Red chicken of R.I. Red and mixed heritage.

Thanks again for your great explanations Chris.

To tell the truth, I have no idea how great my red girls are producing...I have 3 BOs and the 3 (non) RIRs plus 2 Black Australorpes. The BOs and reds are the same age and all started laying about the same time, all shades of brown...Definitely very good production. I can tell that my Red Stars are the best layers because they have the largest eggs and are very consistent almost every day with many double yolkers (kind of annoying really!).

You do understand that it is killing me to not call my girls Rhode Island Reds right??? I wanted RIRs...those are my childhood birds lol. But I'll bet they werent really RIRs then either...sigh, childhood memories squashed like flies....

Actually there are white rirs...
Nope,,,
There is a breed that is called a Rhode Island White BUT it is not a White version of the Rhode Island Red. Two completely different breeds..

From my experience, production reds are more territorial, and more docile them BOs,and lating..
