My friend bought several RIRs who are supposed to be pullets. They are now 7 weeks old, and she's concerned one of them is a cockerel. I'd love to hear what you think.
Thanks for the invite to the forum and thanks for starting this topic on my RIR's. I was pretty sure it was a roo, especially from the comparison photos you sent me last night. I think I may keep him. He looks like he is gonna be beautiful! Just need to make sure I am able to secure them all at night so he won't become the neighborhood alarm clock at too early of an hour. We are actually building a hen room (instead of a hen house) in our existing barn so it shouldn't be to hard to keep him closed in from sunrise and if he crows in the barn it will be to muffled to be a nuisance to neighbors.
He is deffiantly a roo... Here he is at about 12 weeks now. He still hasn't started crowing but I googled it and most say RIR roos start crowing at about 6 months so I'm not gonna worry about him not waking up the neigborhood for a few months yet.
He had some of his feathers plucked off his wings by another young roo that I was fostering for my neighbor. We have recently seperated them and I'm hoping both of them thrive and take good care of their girls.
