RIR rooster to Silver Phoenix hen ~ What will it look like?

My Rhode Island Red Rooster just mated with my Silver Phoenix hen! What will their baby look like? Also, I just got the Phoenix pair yesterday so what color eggs do the hen lay?

hens will look like Red Phoenix like birds and the males will look like silver/golden columbian phoenix like birds. you will be able to sex them at hatch

no. they are gold/silver sexlinks not barred sexlinks

How do I auto sex them when they're born? Ive only hatched barred mixes and leghorn mixes.
BTW anyone know how to auto sex a polish to Brown leghorn? Lol

I am curious if you hatched those RIR/Phoenix eggs and what they look like. My Golden Phoenix apparently got to my RIR hen and below are pics of that result. When the babies were born, they looked just like Golden Phoenix should look. I had one female and one male and, since they were a cross, there were two indicators for sexing. The first being the normal way folks sex Phoenix, by the fact that the male markings had a much darker and more prominent (black) line around its markings and the second was the fact that the female's legs were slate (like the father) and the male's legs were yellow (like the mother).

Here are some pics of them. Notice the yellow legs on the one up front (left)?

Below, the female, 3 months. Her legs now look more green than slate (i guess it's a yellow/slate thing??).

I think I may be wrong in my description of the Phoenix sexing method. My neighbor raises Phoenix and helped me. Perhaps it was actually the female that had the darker lines around her markings. So sorry, I can't remember now. But the legs were a dead give-away.

first I wold like to Thank you so much for posting this pics and sharing with us your breeding experiences, because I will be using your cross as future reference for wildtype birds crossed with Rhode Island red birds. two birds with different e alleles. wildtype e+ for the phoenix and wheaten eWh for RIR. yet the cross look just like Wildtype, giving us a reference as what to expect of e+/e+ x eWh/eWh cross and how they will look like, a cross in mind would be how would a Rhodebar and a RIR cross should look like



and yes your chicks are sex links, but not as the Gold/Silver sex links when you cross gold based males to silver base females. your chicks are sex links because of the sex linked id gene. your rooster passed his id+ sex linked gene(dark/slate shanks) to his doughters and the RIR mother passed her Id gene to the boys, the boys are Id/id+ and therefore have clear yellow shanks

This is our day old silver Phoenix/ rhode island Red Cross. We were just discussing what sex it is and we stumbled on your thread. Based on the legs, we're thinking female, but we're not sure. It looks nothing like a rir. I'm interested to see what it grows up to be.

Your kid is adorable!

If you notice in the pics I posted above, that's what both my male and female looked like when they were hatched. The feathers that came in are red. I'm fairly certain yours will look like mine very soon. I personally am hoping that the female takes on the broody trait from her father (the Phoenix). If she does, I wouldn't be opposed to hatching a few more of this kind. They are extremely sweet, smart and are of a good size (the female is already bigger than a large fowl Phoenix hen). I am expecting her to start laying soon, when she does I will post a photo of her egg along with both a RIR and a Phoenix egg for comparison.
