Roadside ducks?

ANyone know about laws concerning taking ducks from the road side? Near us there is a creek that runs about 4 feet from the roads edge and usually has a few Rouens sitting in it. They are very large and pretty birds and we kinda want to take them. They do not belong to anyone as they "migrate" out in the winter and come back in the spring. Occasionally they bring a Muscovy with them.

Rouens can't fly, so they must be Mallards if they migrate. If they are indeed Mallards, it is very illegal to take them home with you.

Might actually be a snowbird's pets though now that I think about it...

Oh well... time to go see if I can find breeder quality day olds nearby.

Some Mallards can look pretty darn big, my neighbor raised one that was half again as big as mine, and they came from the same hatch.
