Roaming Dogs coming in and killing yesterday

Update on surviving guinea. He seems to be taking a bit of a turn for the worse but not drastically. He is more lethargic today and not eating or drinking. I got some Tylan down him and I have been treating his wounds with Vetericyn. I took him out of the house to our totally protected backyard to hopefully enjoy some sun and a nice breeze and I wanted him to try to move around some. He can’t really walk very well at all right now. I’m sure he is also depressed and lonely, poor guy. It’s so sad that their lives were ripped apart by these 2 marauding dogs. They have had such a wonderful place to roam in our yard for the past 4 years. I really miss looking out the window and always seeing them there and listening to their guinea “sounds”. I hope that he rebounds somehow. Any other suggestions on what I could do to help him?
I don’t know that you can do much more.

I am struggling with this same issue myself. We have cameras up and captured a pic of the guilty dog. He came in and killed three of my hens, and has killed a neighbor's chickens and some of his rabbits, too. We haven't been able to figure out whose dog it is yet, sadly.
Animal control suggested I shoot the dog, but it's just not how I roll. I would be traumatized by that forever, I think. I really would like to speak with the owner though.
Sorry for your losses. It’s just so frustrating when we have the perfect places for our little animals to free range and then can’t because of other totally irresponsible land owners. We have a LGD but half the time he snoozing in the garage so if something happened, at least a couple of chickens would probably be killed before he’d get to them. I’m seriously considering putting in an electric fence on a large spot of area which would let them do a bit of free ranging at least and give me some peace of mind. But I’m not sure if they would try to fly over it. None of them try to fly over a 3 ft fence that surrounds my strawberry patch so I think it would keep them contained.

It would help with ground predators.

If they flew over it, it wouldn't hurt them. It wouldn't hurt them if they landed on it. They have touch it and something else at the same time. It's something to consider.

I'd take some pictures of his injuries and post a thread on the emergencies/disease/cures forum. Talk about what happened, his symptoms, and what supportive care you've given him so far. Folks over there know an awful lot about treating injured birds. If it were my bird I'd absolutely make a thread. They come up with stuff that doesn't even occur to me. lol.

Also, I'd weigh him now so you can see if he's losing weight over time. You might need to tube feed/water him if he's wasting away and not eating on his own.

Additionally, if you can give him some Nutridrench or Poultry Cell or similar vitamin supplement in his water that would probably be good. Dropper feed it to him if you have to. Dehydration is a killer. Poor guy. I hope he pulls through.

Do you know someone else who could take care of it, or would dispatching it at all make you feel awful? Live trap might be an option.

I have been putting in an electrolyte/vitamin mixture and dropper fed him some Tylan today. I wish I would have started the Tylan earlier. I’m not sure he’s gonna make it thru the night as he’s shaking badly now and won’t touch food or water. I think he’s probably dying. He’s still outside in our backyard because if he’s dying, I don’t want it to be in a drab cage in the house. He needs to hear the birds and be in the fresh air. This really breaks my heart. I would give anything to find the owners of those dogs!!

Just went to check on him, he has passed.
I'm so sorry. At least he's with his girl now. :hit
