i've learned that raw soybeans need to be boiled or roasted before feeding to the flock. My question is does anyone know where to buy roasted soybeans? And, 2nd question, is it OK to feed whole soybeans after they have been boiled or roasted?? Thanks

Source will be a function of your location. I have fed with them and they are pretty good protein and fat source although shy on some minerals and vitamins. What I be wary of having birds eat a lot at once without a lot of other goodies mixed in. I have had crop bound issues when birds eat too much and they swell up in the crop. By looks they should pass out of crop just fine, but for some season they do not always do so.

Ok, thanks so much for the reply. I roasted some, then soaked them and I am starting them out on just a few. The reason I'm even trying this at all is that they aren't eating the pellets, so basically they are just eating scratch, which makes them low on protein. I won't be so concerned once the weather warms and the bugs hatch...do you know what type of place I would look for roasted soybean?

Tell me about your pellets. What is the run date? Are the pellets sticking together in clumps?

My default reaction when chickens not eating a particular type of feed is to turn the questionable feed into compost and by a fresh bag.
